High Testosterone In Men: Is it Good or Bad?

April 6, 2020 by Editors

Testosterone is the male hormone which is produced by our testes. Even though the ovaries of women produce some amount of testosterone, it is produced in higher level of concentrations among men and is often responsible for several characteristics among men, such as chest hairs, deeper voice, building muscle mass, keeping energy levels, as well as healthy libido.

The problems that are connected with higher levels of testosterone are rare and infrequent among elderly and middle aged men. When this hormone is out of balance, it usually ends up too low rather than high. Men who experience high testosterone levels may go through certain advantages and disadvantages.

Good or Bad?

There are several benefits of higher than average testosterone levels in men. For one, it works well in normalizing blood pressure, while lowering the possibility of heart attacks and obesity. On the other hand, there are also disadvantages that you can expect. There are even signs of high testosterone that you need to watch out. For one, men become more likely to be injured. We also tend to be more exposed to different vices, such as smoking and drinking alcohol. At the same time, according to studies, higher testosterone level may cause men to engage in high risk behaviors, such as injury and sexual risks, as well as criminal activities.

More than being good, high testosterone in men brings more drawbacks. It is reported to having oily skin and other issues such as the appearance of acne. It may also result to hair loss, which is often associated with too much production of testosterone in the body.

On the other end of the spectrum, men with low testosterone suffer the reverse symptoms.  Legal steroids — while legal — may cause this.

Bottom Line

Rather than going too low, or going too high, the safest way is to make sure that your testosterone levels are in balance. There are men who decide to go through procedures in order to increase their testosterone level count. However, it is very important to regularly monitor the levels of testosterone in your body. In fact, doing so in every five years is often a great idea, particularly for men who are already more than 35 years old.
