Overview

The Duro-Med Tub Transfer Bench and Sliding Shower Chair looks like a strong shower transfer bench. It has a wide seat frame with a seat that can be slid from one end to the other. There is an arm on a side and a backrest is placed directly above the seat. On the seat is a black safety belt.

From the appearance of this shower transfer bench, we can say it’s a perfect match for anyone that needs support in the bathroom. That’s because the manufacturer designed it with every necessary feature such as the backrest, arm, strong four legs, and safety belt. For us, the safety belt is an outstanding feature because it’s scarce to find it on the majority of the transfer benches or shower chairs that are available.

Besides the other features that will keep you safe, you also have a sturdy belt that will guarantee 100% security when bathing. That is specifically good for people who find it hard to balance on their feet or sit without shaking.

This product will ease the caregivers’ tasks and make users comfortable while bathing in the bathtub or showering.

Pros

  • Designed with drainage holes

What is the Duro-Med Tub Transfer Bench and Sliding Shower Chair Made of?

The Duro-Med Tub Transfer Bench and Sliding Shower Chair are made of quality materials all through. The seat and the backrest of the product are made using blow-molded grey plastic material. This type of plastic material is very strong, and it’s the most common plastic used for all kinds of shower chairs and transfer benches.

The legs, arm, and seat support frames are built with aluminum that’s resistant to rust, making the bench long-lasting. Around the seat is a safety belt with a hook and loop to secure you from slipping accidentally. The seat is also connected with nylon strap locks that keep the seat in place.

On the tip of each leg of the bench is a cover derived from rubber to make the seat slip-free on any surface it’s placed.

Our Duro-Med Tub Transfer Bench and Sliding Shower Chair Review

This product was tested by one of our reviewers and after using it for some months, the reviewer submitted remarks for this transfer bench and scored it based on its performances.

Please read this section carefully to find out the pros and cons of this product in detail. Post this you can decide for yourself if this product is good enough for you to buy it.

Comfort (8.9/10)

The Duro-Med Tub Transfer Bench and Sliding Shower chair makes me comfortable anytime I use it in the shower.

The seat is not too hard, and it’s not painful when I sit on it. Its backrest is also very useful when you just want relax the back while showering. However, I removed the backrest later on because I find it more comfortable to use it without the backrest.

I usually put on the safety belt while showering because it makes me feel more secure. The height is adjustable, and I can slide the seat to any side with ease. After sitting on it, my wife would slide me with the seat to the other end, after which I would have my bath.

In the beginning while using the bench, the floor was always wet with water because the bench is large, so the water runs over the other side of the seat. We thought of what we could do about that, and my wife came up with a brilliant idea. We got a bowed out curtain for the shower, something similar to the hotel showers. Then we had a very long curtain, which my wife slit from the bottom and tucked around the transfer bench whenever I was in the bathtub. This stopped the water from flowing down to the floor.

The only issue I have with this transfer bench is the single-arm. It would be more comfortable for me to use two arms when I get in and out of the bench. Also, it lacks a slip-free material.

Sturdiness & Stability (8.8/10)

To some extent, this product is stable and sturdy. The product is not suitable for anyone that weighs above 300 lbs. I know this because I am close to 300 lbs, so at times the bench gets wobbly and is not stable enough in the shower. So, I got a non-slip mat for some extra support, and since then, it has been better.

The arm and the backrest are also giving me the adequate support needed to bath without falling off the bench. I had to adjust the legs to accommodate my size and the adjustment was necessary to keep me stable.

Besides that, the transfer bench has been comfortable and stable enough for me.

Easy to Assemble (9.2/10)

The shower transfer bench can be assembled fast but is not very easy. When the product arrived and I saw the bench’s image, I thought I would get it fixed in two to five minutes. To my surprise, I ended up spending close to twenty minutes plus. The instruction manual was helpful enough that I didn’t have to fix it more than once before getting it ready for use. For a detailed instruction manual, it deserves a 9.2 out of 10.

Value for Money (8.7/10)

A shower chair or transfer bench that can keep me safe and comfortable in the bathroom is worth investing much money on. This product has its flaws, but I prefer it because it’s good sides outweigh its ugly sides.

The Duro-Med Tub Transfer Bench and Sliding Chair comes with all the necessary features that make using it comfortable. Also, it is durable and sturdy enough for me. As said earlier, only if the frames are more potent and the arm is two instead of one, I would appreciate it more at that high price.

Nevertheless, it is worth the price, hence I give it 8.7 out of 10.

Final verdict 8.9

We rate the Duro-Med Tub Transfer Bench and Sliding Shower Chair 8.9 out of 10. That’s because the shower transfer bench has excellent features but also a few flaws. The bench is impressive because it’s designed as a sliding seat and has adjustable legs. Also, it comes with safety belts to ensure you are secured since there is a higher chance of slipping in the bathroom than in any other place. There is also a sturdy backrest on it.

As good as the bench is, there are few features most people would appreciate in it at its price. Firstly, it just has one arm, which lacks a slip-free pad, and secondly, it’s cannot handle more than 300 lbs. weight.

Besides these flaws, our reviewer believes that this a great product. That’s because it makes bathing easy, safe, and comfortable for them. The Duro-Med Tub Transfer Bench and Sliding Shower Chair is a product that is worth the price.
